Roy and Jon. I always feel that these two fighters are very similar. Both arguably were most talented ever at their sports. Both have arguably highest peak and prime ever in any weight classes in their sports. Both were unbeatable and MDE at their prime. Both didnt faced and didnt want to face really great challenges at HW (Miocic and Cain for Jones, Lewis and Holyfield or Roy). Both doped. Its well documented that Roy Jones used PEDs. Jon Jones too. But Roy Jones didnt receive same amount of hate as Jon Jones. Why? Roy fans often said that "in boxing they all were (are) on PEDs", but in MMA its even more evident.
Or maybe hate of Jon Jones exists only on Sherdog?

Well one of the things is that Jon jones is just a naturally unlikable guy to begin with. He's overly arrogant and disrespectful. He's a criminal and multi time juice-cheat. So he pretty much deserves all the hate he gets. Guys that do all that but are atleast likeable and good people will naturally get less hate buecause there is some redeemable quality in them.

Jon is disliked in large part because outside the cage he's almost to the Mayhem Miller level of being a fuckup.

Well failed tests aside, Jon Jones is ranked a much better mma fighter then RJJ was a Boxer. Obviously boxing has been around longer though

Criticizing Roy for not fighting other top HW's after he beat Ruiz for the WBA HW title is asinine. Ruiz was a joke of a HW champion and Roy knew he could beat him on points and DID. Roy can STILL make SMW if he trained hard, so the statement "Roy didn't face or want to face great challenges at HW" is pointless considering if he were in "top shape", he'd weigh around 170-85lb's

Jon Jones might be the most unlikable athlete I’ve come across that wasn’t a murderer or rapist.

You have to realize that Roy is nearly twenty years older than Jon, and has taken some brutal losses. Allow me to steal a quote from a Sugar Ray Robinson documentary.

"There's a quirk in American hero worship in that I think people love you more if you have been humbled once or twice, if you seem vulnerable, if you have a weakness. I think the same is true of Robinson. After he lost a couple times, when he reached the level of being a mere mortal and not a God, I think he became more and more popular."

I truly believe this. Roy had haters back in his prime for a variety of different reasons, some of which were legitimate gripes, but you always miss what is never coming back once it's gone. In this case, I'm talking about Roy's prime.

I don't subscribe to the belief that Jones or Roy ducked HW. In fight sports you are whatever weight class you can cut to, unless the rules change. All fighters cut except HW's (even some of them have to). RJ was a LHW if he wanted to be. Him not fighting guys who outweighed him by 40lbs or more isn't ducking. Same is true for Jones.

Jones kind of reminds me of Paul Williams. Dude was a freak, he was huge but light. Jones was the same. Cutting 20pbs to fight at 205 is not ducking HW if you can manage it, and Jones did. Never missed weight.

Anyway, Jones is a dirty fighter and has made loads of mistakes so he is disliked. That's all. Most of the people who are ragging on him for roiding already didn't like him.
I'll finish this meandering comment by saying that not subscribing to the belief that Jones is the greatest fighter ever does not qualify as 'hate'.

I believe Roy Jones jr used steroids and feigned a tainted supplements excuse.

But he didn't hit and run a pregnant woman so Jon is much worse.

Roy turned pro as a middleweight but “didn’t really want to face great challenges at hw”? You realize a guy like Roy Jones in his prime, walked around lighter than a Tyrone Woodly, right?
